PROGRAM OVERVIEW
The 2013 Salute to Valor Music Festival honors the brave men and women of the United States Armed Forces and the American veterans who have nobly served and defended our great nation. Through musical performances featuring American repertoire, native and adopted, we gather to celebrate our national holiday of independence before an audience of American servicemen, veterans, and their families.
This Festival features the rare opportunity to perform as part of the mass Festival Chorus on the deck of the USS Missouri in Pearl Harbor on Thursday, the Fourth of July in a concert that will be followed by fireworks, seen from the incredible vantage of the Battleship Missouri*.
We are proud to announce that the United States Navy Pacific Fleet Band has collaborated with the Salute to Valor Music Festival to provide instrumental accompaniment for the concert aboard the USS Missouri**. Piano accompaniment has also been arranged for select pieces. The Festival is open to adult, youth, and children’s choirs.
Participation in the 2013 Salute to Valor Music Festival does not require that a choir tour with a balanced ensemble. Individual vocalists or partial choirs will be blended with other balanced choirs to perform in the July 4th Festival Concert.
Nonperforming individuals, family members, and friends of music are also welcomed to enroll and join us amidst the beauty of Hawaii for what will be the premier American music festival of 2013.
Participating ensembles will be provided customized tour itineraries accommodating their scheduled concert performances. Sample itineraries are provided herein under “Tentative Itinerary”. Because of space constraints, the Festival Concert on July 4th on the deck of the USS Missouri can only be made available to a limited number of singers and instrumentalists. Participation in the Festival is confirmed upon a successful application and approval. All applications are subject to review and approval by the Artistic Director.
Outside of the July 4th Festival Concert, participating choirs may elect to arrange other concert performances under the auspice of the 2013 Salute to Valor Music Festival. Classic Choir Tours will work with enrolled choirs to arrange and promote such additional performances.
* The regularly scheduled firework display is sponsored by the United States Navy. The Department of the Navy reserves the right to cancel or postpone the fireworks without prior notice for security or other reasons. Weather conditions may also affect the timing of the firework display.
** The United States Navy Pacific Fleet Band is comprised of active service men and women. Unexpected calls to duty can affect the participation of the band outside of a sixty day prior notice.
